International project contracting, as one of the most important modes of international economic transaction, is becoming a very important aspect of one country's foreign economic activity with strengthening of economic globalization trends. Being a part of reform and opening policy, China's international project contracting has achieved a rapid development and got its position in the global market competition. However, comparing with developed countries and some large contractors in the world, China's international project contracting is still being the early stage with a lot of indispensable problems existed and low international competitiveness. Therefore, how to improve China's international project contracting competitiveness and make China occupy larger market share are the issues to be studied and settled at presence, and also become the main topic of the essay.The essay consists of three parts. The first part mainly introduces the theories, characteristics, developing trends of international project contracting. And the key is to state the present development status of China's international project contracting and expose the problems that china is facing at current stage. The second part mainly discusses how to improve our international competitiveness from microscopic view horizon trough analyzing the theory and mutual relationship of three dimensions of international competitiveness. That is to say, the fundamental approach is to improve the competitiveness of EPC contractor. The third part mainly discusses how to improve our international competitiveness form macroscopic view horizon through analyzing the public policies of USA and Japan in terms of promoting the development of international project contracting. And meanwhile, propose some relevant suggestions on the execution of public policy for China from the experiences of developed country.
