As Chinese conventional time concept, Chinese conventional festivals play key role in people's life. They have been formulated and developed long time ago. Great records for them have been found, in which Chen Yuanjing's An Overview of Chinese Conventional Festivals is distinguished by its characters. Chen collected so many materials about festivals covered most areas of China and dynasties in the book that it becomes the only book having the most sufficient records about Chinese conventional festivals until now. The other character is Chen started the offprint style for recording the festivals. Thus Chen not only recorded sufficient invaluable materials about folk-custom, but also kept much information about many unindexed books. The research about Chinese conventional festivals is progressing rapidly after 1980's, and great achievements have been made. However, most researchers focused on the study of theory and some festival. Little work has been found on the literature searching and studying, except the book The Study on Jingchu Conventional Festivals (written by Prof. Xiao Fang, who is with Beijing Normal University).
