In the context that the existing studies haven't explicitly given the relationship of income distribution and consumer demand, in connection with the reality that the widening gap of Chinese residents in income distribution since 1990 and the lack of consumer demand in recent years, this paper mainly used the evidence ways to explore the trend of Chinese residents' income distribution patterns and its impact on consumer demand since 1990.First, in the framework of consumption, this paper made a brief summary and evaluation for the part of income distribution's impact on consumer demand in the consumption of western theories, found that: the relevant part of the absolute income hypothesis, life-cycle and permanent income hypothesis can make some explanation to the reality that income distribution's impact on consumer demand in China.Second, this paper analyzed the changing trend of Chinese residents' income distribution patterns. Specifically analyzed the distribution condition of the residents' income within and between the urban and rural residents, the income distribution condition in different income social strata, the income distribution condition in different regions and sectors, and made a fundamental judge to the changing trend of Chinese residents' income distribution patterns since 1990, it is that the income disparities between urban and rural residents, between different income groups ,between regions and between sectors were expanding.Once again, this paper analyzed the impact about the changing trend of Chinese residents' income distribution patterns on consumer demand since 1990. Specifically inspected the impact on consumer rates, on consumer preference and consumption structure and used the actual statistics of the Gini coefficient, consumer rates and consumer preference to make a measurement certification. The results showed: With China's growing income disparities, consumption rates and consumer preference appeared down trend, it proved that the widening of income distribution gap was one of the important causes which led to the lack of consumer demand.Finally, this paper posed several policy recommendations pointing to narrow the income gap to expand our consumer demand.
