This paper summarizes the achievements and the process of the economic reforms in Russia in the 90s. It also analyses the structural challenges that the Russian economy faced. While discussing the contribution that the future structural reforms can have to the overall improvement of the economic achievements and evaluating the contribution of the changes in the system and the structure to the overall economic achievements for the period concerned, I have arrived at 3 conclusions: 1 for improving the basic structure of the market economy a vast amount of work is steel to be done. But the new Russian authorities already started a number of impressive, profound and also technically very complex "Second Generation" reforms, despite the fact that many first generation reforms are not accomplished yet. 2 The main challenge that the second generation reforms face comes down to reforms in the very structure of state. Thirdly, the pursuit of reforms across a broad front could enable Russia to profit from complementarities that exist among various strands of reform.The discussion starts from analysis of the economic policies and achievements in early 80's, it then considers the contribution that institutional and structural reforms have made to recent performance, before turning to the question of where further structural reform would facilitate improved economic performance...
