This paper is a study on the role and function of Hong Kong in the Chinese economy in the future, based on the analysis of the history of Hong Kong's economy. In a long period, the development of Hong Kong's economy was very slow. After the second world war, the structure of economy had changed for several times. Nowadays, Hong Kong has developed into the famous financial and trade center, the important traffic and communication hinge in the world. On the other hand, Hong Kong has played an important role in the process of the reformation of Chinese economy. However, Asian financial crisis in 1997 broke down the prosperity of the Hong Kong. Until 2004, it began to rise again after the center and special administration government took a series of measures. In the future, Hong Kong should take the opportunity of the rapid development of China, explore the new role and function in the Chinese economy. The most important is that the special administration government should find and maintain the unique value of Hong Kong, for example, "one country two systems", liberal economy, bridge between the East and the West, and then can it explore the right direction of the economic development.
