Along with economic development and social progress, the regional economic characteristics surfaced. Urban development in China is gradually entering the city center as the core, to the surrounding suburbs and small cities as the fulcrum of the metropolitan area era, such as the Pearl River Delta region, the Yangtze River Delta region. In the formation and development process of metropolitan area, transport network efficiency play a key role. With increasingly urban traffic jams, the metropolitan area traffic planning must be done well to ensure that cities and surrounding suburbs to catch up with the traffic network in the pace of economic development.Chicago is the railway capital of the United States, even of the whole world, and it is also an important communications hub in the United States. Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area is the city of Chicago, and the six counties around the northeastern Illinois. Chicago's transportation planning are very famous. This paper is about Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficient Program (CREATE), 2030 Regional Transportation Plan and Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area 2040 Regional Framework Plan. First, it analysis the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area traffic conditions, highlighted the Chicago transport hub status and rail transport infrastructure can not meet the future needs of the situation. On this basis, it analysis the contents, objectives, rules for the operation and effectiveness prediction of Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficient Program (CREATE); Then analysis the 2030 Regional Transportation Plan; Finally, it introduce the basis and content of Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area 2040 Regional Framework Plan, and summarize the features of this plan. At last, it sums up six recommendations for our city transportation plan. I hope that this paper will be reference to future metropolitan transportation plan.
