A Research Into Western Geography Of Money And Finance

Geography of money and finance has become an active researching field for economists and geographers in the west and a large number of literature sprung up during the past two decades. Owing to great regional diversity of natural, technological, economical and social condition, money and finance show more and more imbalance and regional character. The geography of money and finance is so important that more and more researchers in the west concerns about it. With the process of financial system reform in China, there are some phenomena of geography of money and finance similar to the west. However, domestic scholars paid less attention to this field .There is no doubt that it has great significance for doing researching on geography of money and finance in China to cite and review the references in western countries.At present, most of literature on geography of money and finance in the west are in the form of paper and they are so idiographic and thorough that it is short of comprehensive and recapitulative analysis. Similarly, most of domestic researchers review the literature from the perspective of economics or geography respectively and it was difficult to demonstrate the historical development and latest research of this field completely. This article explores the researches both of the economists and geographers and laid out the actuality about this subject comprehensively. According to the existing literature and the author's comprehension, the present thesis tries to abstract the character and objection of this subject and makes comments on the main viewpoint of three schools. At last, we showed the value and application of geography of money and finance for China clearly.This thesis has divided into six sections. First, we mainly introduced the background and signification of research and the development of money and finance in China. Second, we made an analysis about whether money and finance has the character of geography or not and pointed out the necessity of present research. Third, we reviewed the development of geography of money and finance. Fourth, we summarized three major research themes in this field, such as geography of money, financial center and financial exclusion. Fifth, we divided the research in this field into three schools and made my comments on them separately. Sixth, we discussed the inspiration of the geography of money and finance in the west for China.
