The dissertation discusses the historical course of General Agreement on Tariff and Trade from the perspective of economic globalization and explores the interaction between it and economic globalization, from which we can analyze the effect and limitation of it as a global governance regime. The dissertation is divided into three chapters except for preface and conclusion. The first chapter: 'the Origins of General Agreement on Tariff and Trade'. The generation of General Agreement on Tariff and Trade was encouraged by deep-seated reasons: Prewar trade protectionism and world economic crisis made many governments realize that getting stabilization and development relies on international economic cooperation but not that every government goes one's own way in dealing with economic trade matters; World economic system has changed: America has become the center of world economy, while other capitalist countries have fell into a decline correspondingly. For restoring postwar world economy, American aimed to capitalist world economic systems whose core was the Bretton Woods System. The ultimate reason for the generation of General Agreement on Tariff and Trade is the deepening of economic globalization's trend which made capitalist countries' interdependence deepen. The second chapter: 'the Development of General Agreement on Tariff and Trade'. Since General Agreement on Tariff and Trade was founded, it has hold eight rounds of multilateral trade negotiations. The development of general agreement on tariff and trade was mostly embodied by eight rounds of multilateral trade negotiations: From 'single topic negotiations round' to 'excessive topics negotiations round' and 'all-around negotiations round'. The development of topics repeatedly reflects general agreement on tariff and trade walking up to maturity along with the deepening of economic globalization gradually. The third chapter: 'General Agreement on Tariff and Trade as a Global Governance Regime'. The establishment of global governance regimes such as general agreement on tariff and trade has made world trade more freely and widely. Economic globalization is developing rapidly on the basis of that. However general agreement on tariff and trade is not the catholicon of all international trade matters: the reason is that the modern world of State Standards strikes up real global governance regimes hardly. The internal limitation of general agreement on tariff and trade is the factor which we can not neglect.
