This thesis is a systematic research about the rural tourist in China based on abundant paper and empirical research. First, the author analyses the concepts of rural area and rural tourism, then the author clears up the related outcomes of developments on rural tourism, which includes the focus, streams and methods of the rural tourism in and over abroad. Secondly, the author gives a summarize study of the Push and Pull Theory, and sums up the achievements of the national and foreign scholars. Next, the author takes the rural area of Beijing as an example for an empirical analysis. This study examines the influence of push and pull factors on visitors to the rural area of Beijing. The results of a factor analysis identify seven push factor domains and four pull factor domains underlying respondents' push and pull factor ratings. One-way ANOVA and T-test investigate differences in the push and pull factor domains for different socio-demographic subgroups. And these motivations have obvious differences in age, profession, gender, revenue and educational background. The correlation analysis shows that factor domains of push and pull are connected with each other, not separate ones. At last, the author comes out the result through statistics analysis, and puts forward some useful suggestions and implications on the rural tourism development in Beijing rural area, and mentions about the innovation and limitation of the study. The main method in this study is a combination of theoretical study and empirical analysis.
