In the electricity market environment, bidding strategies employed by generation suppliers may have significant impacts on their own benefits and on the operating behaviors of an electricity market as well. Hence, how to develop optimal bidding strategies for generation suppliers or how to analyze strategic behaviors of them is now a very active research area, which is very valuable and significant.This dissertation focuses on the study of bidding strategies of generation suppliers in the electricity market environment. Taken into the consideration with the uncertain factors, this thesis employs the stochastic programming method to build the model and solve the problem. The detail work is as follow:Firstly, a comprehensive introduction of the recent work in this area is made, and the emphasis is put on the comparison and analysis.Secondly, a two-level model of bidding strategies based on power pool trade model is developed, and the emphasis is put on the relationship between the strategic bidding and the profits of the suppliers.Thirdly, taking into account of the uncertain factors, on the basis of describing the rival bidding behaviors as the probability functions, the problem of building the optimal bidding strategy is then formulated as a stochastic optimization problem, and solved by the combination of Monte Carlo and genetic algorithm.Fourthly, it studies the effects of transmission congestion on the bidding strategies and the profits. The problem of developing optimal bidding strategies for generation suppliers with transmission congestion taken into account is systematically investigated, and a methodological framework for solving this problem is established.Fifthly, basing on the above-mentioned work, a model for the combined bidding strategies of multi-units under congestion is established, and the solving approach is supplied. Sixthly, with the cases of the 4-bus system, 6-bus system and 30-bus system, the above bidding problems are calculated and analyzed.Finally, several conclusions are made based on the research outcomes, and several problems to be studied are clarified.
