In the electricity market environment, bidding strategies employed by power generation companies may have significant impacts on their own benefits. Hence, it is important for the power generation companies to study the theory of the electricity market and the action of the others.In china the studying of the electricity market began since in last century. The function of electricity market was analyzed based on the structure of the electricity market and the development process of the operation. The way of market operation was formulated, electricity price theories under a mode of electricity market were discussed and their applications were analyzed. Meanwhile, control of electricity market was mentioned and suggestions on construction of domestic electricity market were provided. Currently games theory method and possibility theories are mainly employed by domestic scholars to conduct the research on the bidding strategy of a power company.Bidding strategies employed by a power company under the market mode of Eastern China are discussed in the paper. The bidding strategies applicable to the power company to participate in market are worked out based on the analysis of the structure of electricity market in Eastern China and market influence of the power company in the electricity market of Eastern China. The paper studies the market rule of the electricity market in Eastern China, analyses the current problems and puts forward solutions.The electricity market in Eastern China is a single side competition market for power companies. Contract for difference is used for settling accounts. Limited competition is on the basis of 10% electric quantity. Eastern China is in a stage of electricity excess after several years of development, which sharpened the competition between the power companies. Under the environment, the power company has to participate in the market competition resonantly.The power company has to be in line with its own equipment condition and may conduct analysis on consumption characteristics of the units by on-line system, then work out the marginal cost and study the cost structure.
