The construction industry is an important pillar in the social economy with atight link to other over 50 industrial sectors and offering 5% employment opportunity.At the same time, the construction industry is of resource-and energy-intensive. Inthe world 50% energy is consumed by construction and its product usage process.The sustainable development of construction industry is not only concerned with thepeople's living standard, but also greatly with the national economy. Seeking thesustainable development pattern of construction industry is to figure outresponsibilities which should be born by the construction industry and let it to playthe necessary role in the sustainable development of social economy.Based on the sustainable development theory, this paper uses the industrialecological theory to research the sustainable development pattern of constructionindustry from the prospective of industrial system. And this paper proposes theconstruction industry ecosystem pattern.The construction industry ecosystem pattern requests to set up a close loop typeof "resources-productions-recycle resources" and to use energies at various levels. Inthe construction industry ecosystem, waste materials discharged from one enterpriseshould be reused as the input for other enterprise's process. The construction industryecosystem constructs eco-industrial chain in accordance with the ecologicalprinciples, and to realize entire circulation among of raw materials, products,by-products and waste. The aim of the eco-industrial chain is to realize the lowemission or zero emission with the help of optimization of the production andprocess integration, and to realize the sustainable development of the construction system.Based on the theory and practice of the circular economy, industry ecology andEIP, the paper first introduces the construction industry ecosystem, including itsconception, composition and characteristic. By analyzing on the reality and theoreticbase, an assessment system and model to quantitively measure the contribution madeby the construction industry ecosystem in the sustainable development areestablis.hed, and case study is conducted by the help of the assessment system andmodel. Finally, by analyzing the existing problems and shortcomings, the paper endswith the possible measure, solutions, and strategies to promote the constructionindustry ecosystem.
