Research On The Effect Of Performance From Market Structure And Ownership Structure Of Chinese Banking

This thesis has researched on the effect of performance from market structureand ownership structure of Chinese banking, and has got the following results:First, the correlation between market structure,ownership structure and theperformance were conspicuous, however, the correlation between the ownershipstructural transformation (stock transformation) and the performance was positive andthe other pair(market structural transformation and performance) was negative. Andthe relationship between the ownership structure and performance was more sensitivethan the market structure and performance.Second, with the decrease of the degree of market concentration in the studyperiod, there were some difference between the state-owned commercial banks andthe stock system commercial banks, after 1998 the state-owned commercial banksimproved their performance gradually, while the performance of stock systemcommercial banks have deceased sharply, in spite of higher than the sate-owned banksyet. That means, the increase of market share of the stock system banks were paid forperformance. On the other side, if the stock system banks wanted to keep the higherperformance with the quickly expanding, they should go to financing (e.g. IPO).Third, in this thesis have found that the correlation between the efficiency andthe performance of banks was very marked and positively. And the stock systembanks' efficiency was higher than the state-owned banks, so it's necessary to do stocktransformation of state-owned commercial banks.Therefore, the reform of ownership structure of bank industry in our country isprimary and one of the key points. Moreover, the reform of market structure is notonly the increase of banks or market share, but also to build a more justice, efficientand standard market structure with the deregulation.
