With the fast developent of information technology, informatioan management is accepted by increasing enterprises and individuals, but at present, the performance of software projects is unsatisfying. As the software projects especilly the large-scale application software is very risky, the success rate of the projects is very low. In the fact, the problem does not lay in technique itself but in the management, and that is how to manage ie scientifically. The discipline of software risk management is still at its initial stage either in acadamic or in practice in China today, while it has been investigated for over a decada abroad. The academic aims of this paper include lessons learned from all availble resulrs, and exploring for a frame work of software project risk management according to Chinese situation. And the application of this research can be evaluated from high-risk characteristic and various ongoing needs of software projects.The general characters of software project are the following: the object is not very clear, the task is without definaite limitation, the need of customers are unclear and changing frequently. All above leads to longer period and more cost. Besides, the software project is of high density of intelligence and much influenced by labour sources. All these explains that software risk management is different from risk management of other items, so the research must consider all of the characters. This paper describes in a simple way the basic concept, methods and skills of the software project risk management on the base of deep research of software project risk management and some project manager`s experience of project management for many years, especially the experiment and failures in the management of software projects. The major research content is as following:Chapter 1 is an introduction. This chapter explains the background, the main content , the method used of this paper. It also explains the creative thinkings on the topic and the frame work of the paper.Chapter 2 is the conception and correlative theory of software risk management. Frist analyzes the the general characters of software projects and large-scale application software projects also analyzes the connection and difference between software project management and traditiona project management. Then summarizes the concerned theories, introduces some important thoughts and models in the area and analyzes their characteristics and brings them into comparison.In chapter 3, the author first describes the concespts of identifying risk and remarks the basic methods of identifying risk. Through investigation and summary, a method of identifying risk is pointed out, which is suitable for large-scale application software projects.Then the author first describes the concespts and the general process of risk estimation and remarks the basic methods of risk estimation, and also sets up a model of risk estimation for large-scale application software projects.In chapter 4, how to plan programs for management software project risk are demonstrated. The mechanism and institution for monitoring risk are developed. Methods of dealing with the risk is also pointed out.In chapter 5, an admatic model of risk management for large-scale application software project is set up based on the research on current domestic and international classics risk management models.In chapter 6, an example of large-scale application software project is analyzed based of the research of this paper.Chapter 7 summarizes the whole paper and suggests what should be done to improve this study in future. This paper scientifically analyzes the method of identifying risk and risk estimation, and also set up a model for software project management, which should be organized in practical application in order to improve the system of software project management.
