The Study On Effect Of EU ICT Industry On Economic Growth

Information and communication technology industry (ICT) emerged in the middle of 20th century and now it is in the phase of fast development. As the course of social informationization is speeding up, ICT industry becomes a. leading industry. ICT industry's development status affects the whole economic situation and its development can support the economic growth. It is the accelerator of a country's economy and has great economy driven effect. ICT industry can not only produce great social wealth but also improve other industries' productivity. So through the development of ICT industry, a country or a district can become more competitive and get durative economic growth.This paper is divided into five parts in content: the first part is introduction, which introduces backgrounds, significance, purposes of study and content. The second part is literature review, it includes the introduction of the leading industry theroy, the relation between leading industry and economic growth and the effect of ICT industry on economic growth. The third part mainly analyzes the economic status of ICT industry and the economic effect of EU ICT industry, including the effect on labour productivity, GDP and industrial structure. On the basis of former analysis, the fourth part analyzes the problems of EU ICT industry , including the gap between America ICT industry and EU ICT industry, the gap and incoordination of ICT industry in EU states. This part also introduces EU ICT industry policies by which EU aims to solve this problems. The last part analyzes the Chinese ICT industry situation and makes policy recommendations.
