| The pattern of "Structure-Conduct-Performance"(SCP) is the traditional way to study industrial organization, during which the relationship of structure and performance is a focus of attention. Industrial concentration is an important concept of market structure ,so it is very important to study industrial concentration and its main factors.China is one of the biggest countries of steel in the world but not the great power of steel production.Low industrial concentration is the key issue of steel industry in China,which results in lots of problems such as inconsequence of Chinese steel products structure,low quality,high resources consumption.Although steel industry in China has maken great progress during the past 20 years,China became the first strongest steel country in the world in 1996 and the total steel production quantity continuously ranks first in the world for 9 years,however,which can not show that China is a steel great power.All steel great powers in the world such as America,Japan,Germany and Europe union and so on usually show high industrial concentration,with high international competition power.With the entry of WTO,how to preserve the advantage of total steel production in the world and improve the level of steel industrial concentration is the most important issue of present steel industry.On the basis of industrial economics the paper analyzes the Chinese steel industry. Combining the world trend of steel development and the special reasons of Chinese institution and system, the industrial concentration and the relationship to the performance are studied with the yearbook statistic. The results show that: there exists a positive correlation between concentration and profit rate and the correlation is caused by the big companies' working efficiency and technical innovation,but the correlation is not obvious statistically.Secondly,the factors to the steel industrial concentration have been analyzed by the ways of regression and component analysis. Finally, from the results it forward corresponding suggestions for improve the industrial concentration: to complete and perfect the industrial policy and promote the development of steel industry. |
