Together with the development of Information Technology and Economics Globalization,The enterprise logistics management has been changed from the sole Enterprise to the supply chain where Enterprise is.Vendor Managed Inventory emerges under this new social environment and marketing characteristic.VMI breaks the traditional inventory mode where each does things in their own ways and uses systemic and integrated inventory management.No matter under the situation of theoretic research or practical operation,the key issue of VMI system design and operation is Inventory Routing Problem.The research of IRP could arrange inventory supplement more reasonably for supplier under demander required information,in order to decrease the logistics cost.On a base of summarizing the current research of IRP home and abroad,this article does theoretical research for IRP and also analyzes the probability under the real operational condition by case analysis.This article describes the definition and characteristic of IRP,and analyzes three necessary problems which have to be solved by IRP plan maker.Those three questions are delivery time or frequency,delivery amount and delivery route.This article also introduces VMI,including definition,production,development,structure, and most importantly analyzes differences of inventory management and delivery management between VMI mode and traditional mode.This article analyzes the characteristic of the given logistics system,cost structure and variable of decision-making,designs a model about IRP which could minimize the system logistics cost,and offers some algorithms to attain the optimal delivery frequency,delivery amount and delivery route.This article gives an example that a multinational FMCG company plans to develop VMI in Shanghai.Under the background the model and algorithm are proved out by computer operation,meanwhile the example analysis is worked out.
