In the past recent years, the world has seen the rapid growth of China. As China develops, so has her brands. From this development, the world watches and Chinese people are anticipating which local companies can become dominant players in the world market. Surely, there is much excitement about Chinese brands going international but there is some uncertainty in their ability to succeed and compete in the long term.How can Chinese companies become successful in developed markets such as the US? What types of strategies can they use that will be effective abroad? Are there any sources Chinese companies can look to to help them as they prepare for the developed, world markets?This paper discusses how some US companies entered the Chinese market and the lessons learned from such a process. Also included are Chinese companies that are preparing or have already entered US markers. Specifically, what can be learned from these case studies in the areas of design, management strategy and brand strategy? Most importantly, the author shows how design can help solve the localization problem for companies. This research uses the case studies of: Lining company, Nike, Yao Ming, KFC, and Haier as main examples.
