The selection of transportation modes is of great significance for manufacturing enterprises to realize the rationalization of transport. Currently, the contradiction between supply and demand in China cargo market is obvious. Under this situation, many manufacturing enterprises are facing various choices of transportation modes, most of which have capacity constraints. Therefore, how to choose the reasonable transportation modes and determine the appropriate cargo volume become the key issues of enterprises logistics decision. This dissertation conducted an in-depth study on the selection of transportation modes based on capacity constraints.This dissertation defined the content of transportation mode at first, and then compared the advantages, disadvantages and operation features among four basic means of transportation. Then it summarized the main methods of selecting transportation modes and put forward using linear programming method as a basis for the research on the selection of transportation modes.Under the condition of fixed transportation capacity, price and transport time, this dissertation established multi-objective decision-making models for single-stage transportation mode selection. Those models were based on capacity constraint with following considerations: total cost minimization, time effect and cargo urgency and then reached the optimal solutions by using software Lingo 8.0. The results showed: The option had certain interval stability. And the option for emergency cargo had more stability than that for ordinary cargo. Whether the priority goods exist or not would affect the selection of transportation modes.Considering inventory cost, the dissertation integrated transpiration and warehousing and built multi-stage transportation mode selection model. The result showed that efficient transportation modes were suit for emergency goods and the occasion when reducing inventories was important for enterprises.Under the condition of uncertain transportation capacity, price and transport time, the dissertation introduced fuzzy mathematics method and used triangular fuzzy number to represent uncertain capacity, price and transport time. When capacity was uncertain, the dissertation used ranking method to solve the model and obtained the conclusion: capacity stability would impact the transportation mode selection. When both capacity and price were uncertain, the dissertation used ambiguity resolution method to solve the model and the results showed prices fluctuation had comparatively smaller impact on the transportation mode selection. When capacity, price and transport time were uncertain, the dissertation established a multi-objective fuzzy linear programming model with time and cost minimization. The validity of the model was proved through example.
