China is in the preceding period of"urban society". At present, the world's average level of urbanization has been 54%. China's urbanization level has been above 33%, and that of eastern littoral area is even close to 46%. It is estimated that China's urbanization level will be close to 65%--70% 1①in the future twenty years. The development and competition among cities depend most on the construction of culture- based city image. Meanwhile, spacial landscape mark is the concentration of city image and mass sense image, which best interprets urban culture and image. Being flexible and giving the city inside information and charm, culture may turn into spiritual, systematic and economical factors. As a special resource, it is inexhaustible in supply and always available for use, which meets the feature of capital to some extent and can be used to create"attention economy", relying on spacial landscape mark of a city.The paper is divided into five parts:Chapter 1 states the significance and prospect of the research on spacial landscape mark in"cultural capital of a city". Through research on the first city marker, urban culture and figure, this chapter expatiates the significance and prospect of spacial landscape mark and"cultural capital of a city"in development and competition among cities. Chapter 2 analyses the supporting factors of the research. By detailed analysis of spacial landscape mark and"cultural capital of a city", this paper explains their relation and proves that spacial landscape mark can realize understanding between the public and urban culture, as well as promote culture's turning into capital.Chapter 3 makes a case study, by comparing Dalian and Xi'an, a coastal city VS an inland city. The design and spread of the city image of Dalian is one of the best models among China's cities, while Xi'an is a city with a long history and rich culture. This contrast study means to give other design of spacial landscape mark for reference.Chapter 4 researches on design thinking in spacial landscape mark in"cultural capital of a city". After analyzing"cultural capital of a city", essential landscape of city space, design of city space image and layout optimization of city space, the author argues that the promotion of design thinking in spacial landscape mark needs the culture's turning into capital, so as to deeply promote city image and bring more benefits.Chapter 5 is conclusion part. Based on above analysis, the author draws a conclusion of the research.
