In the new century, the global economy develops with a faster speed and the trend of regional economic integration has become much more obvious. Under this historical trend, CAFTA (the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area) came into being. The founding process of the CAFTA promotes a further economic cooperation within the region, so countries and region within the Free Trade Area are developing closer and closer ties. As a key aspect in regional cooperation, tourism has attracted attentions increasingly in resent years from scholars home and abroad, who were pleased to keep talking the great contribution of regional tourism cooperation for the industry but ignored competition relations. With increasingly fierce competition in regional tourism, the existing content and mechanism study about the regional tourism cooperation have been unable to keep up with the pace of its development. Guangxi, in the centre of the CAFTA economic circle, is faced with competition from the ASEAN countries and other provinces in the country. What's more, the foundation of Guangxi tourism industry is relatively weak and its competitiveness is needed to be enhanced. In above situations, the study on how to better participate in the regional tourism competition and fulfill touring province goal under the CAFTA background has great practical significance. On the basis of following related theories: the competitiveness theory, industrial competitiveness theory, competitiveness of regional tourism theory and sightseeing place theory, this thesis put forward the concept of regional tourism industry and also set up model for analyzing the its competitiveness. The thesis analyzes the effect of the establishment of CAFTA on Guangxi tourism industry in detail and focuses on the evaluation and analysis on the competitiveness of Guangxi and the ASEAN countries. Meanwhile, the writer sets up competitiveness index system for regional tourism trade by using analytic hierarchy method. Through the data, values are assigned into the system. Choose Guangxi and the ASEAN countries as empirical analysis samples for evaluation and comparative analysis. And try to figure out the gap between Guangxi tourism industry and ASEAN countries'as well as existing tourism trade competition status of Guangxi. Through evaluation analysis, in CAFTA tourism competitiveness, the competitiveness of the tourism industry in Guangxi is unsatisfactory, and its overall level is just moderate. Compared with the ASEAN countries, Guangxi is far behind the, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and other traditional touring countries. As the rising of Vietnam, international competition position of Guangxi tourism trade has become precariousAccordingly this thesis concludes strategies with pertinence. In the process of promoting regional tourism cooperation, Guangxi should should focus on the strengthening international tourists network, extend market share in home and abroad tourists markets. And Change tour companies'operation and management models, enhance their competitiveness and utilize geographical advantages to accelerate the construction of Beibu Gulf tourism circle. Finally, take full use of advantages of CAFTA to promote the competitiveness of the tourism industry in Guangxi in full scales.New ideas in the thesis: First, the thesis points out It's not enough for Guangxi tourism industry to emphasize coorperation in CAFTA at all. More importantly, competition is included in the relation of Guangxi to the ASEAN countries. Second, by evaluating competitiveness of tourism industry of Guangxi and the ASEAN countries, the thesis makes the position be more clearly for Guangxi tourism industry in CAFTA.
