Since the fierce market competition and acceleration in technological innovation, nowadays R&D is becoming the critical factor for an enterprise's survival and development, which is also an important approach to get competition advantage. The selection of R&D organization pattern is an important aspect of R&D. In the traditional documents, it excessively emphasizes too much interior limited resource, while individual enterprise's economic power and R&D capacity are normally insufficient. In such a case the success ratio and utility ratio of our enterprises'R&D outcome is extremely low. As most of corporations never have the intention to invest more resource to R&D, so far they haven't formed core competition.With the technological convergence getting universal unprecedentedly, the tendency of cooperation in R&D between enterprises is becoming more obvious. Compared with traditional non-cooperative pattern, the cooperative one can avoid technological risk, financial risk, market risk and so on. However, the climax of cooperation in R&D does not appear in China, so it has good prospect in the future. On the basis of such train of thought, with AJ model improved by D'Aspremont and Jacquemin, we set up the selection theory of R&D organization pattern. Through this model, we can study the performance and welfare under different R&D tactic. We hope this article can offer relevant theoretical principles for enterprises'selection of R&D organization pattern.The paper is divided into six chapters. The background and purpose are introduced in chapter one. The second chapter consists of literature review and some definitions of relative concepts, mainly including the R&D spillover effect, R&D return effect and theory of corporation in R&D. Chapter three discourses on improvement of AJ model and construction of the selection theory of R&D organization pattern. In the next chapter, it mainly analyzes the factors that influence the selection of R&D organization pattern and R&D organization patterns which enterprises can choose. In chapter five, we choose the R&D situation in Chinese Pharmaceutical Profession as study object to verify the selection theory of enterprise's R&D organization pattern. The last chapter is the conclusion and suggestions, which also probes into this paper's application value.
