Equity structure is the property basis of the corporate governance. Equity structure determines the effectiveness of the corporate governance and performance of the company to a large extent. Whereas banking plays a foundational role in modern economy, so its performance has become a very important and far-reaching issue. This article starts with the relationship between equity structure and performance, considers particularity of banking, compares the characteristics of equity structure among the representative countries of the world, check out the shortage of our listed banks, and point out the way we should take to establish an effective equity structure.This article elaborates the relationship between equity structure and corporate performance from two aspects: equity concentration and constitution of equity. We analyze the effect of equity structure on corporate performance from the point of corporate governance using ROE as dependent variables, equity concentration and constitution of equity as independent variables and adopting ASSERT, DA as controlling variables. Our empirical research result shows: the proportion of the first shareholder's stock right and bank performance exist negative relationship; the proportion of main shareholder's stock right is positively related to bank performance. Because of the small quantity of swatch, the scale of corporate stocks and liquid stock are not correlative to the performance.The conclusion is the equity structure is closely linked to economic background. We should optimize equity structure of commercial bank step by step considering the particularity of equity structure of Chinese banking and capital market conditions, and enhance the competitiveness of Chinese banking ultimately.
