Along with the quick development of network economy and knowledge economy, the emergence and alternation of new technology is more and more quick, and the life cycle of products is also more and more short. Besides, the demands of clients are growingly individual and diversified. Therefore, the rival environment that enterprises are confronting is unceasingly changed and unpredicted. All these must require enterprise of 21st century to own agile competitive competence to rein in the changeful and uncertain environment. Under such background, a sort of enterprise that concentrates on core competence and is able to recombine rapidly its inner and exterior capability and resource, thereby to respond rapidly market opportunity is giving birth to. The enterprise is named as agile enterprise (AE). Organizational structure is the established interaction between the various components of an enterprise for the attainment of its aim. The appropriateness of organizational structure directly affects the efficiency of the enterprise. R&D organization is in charge of the new products design and development in an enterprise. The appropriateness of its organizational structure affects the ability of innovation and service to the customers. The research focuses on the key factors of the R&D organizational structure and the relation between the R&D organizational structures and the enterprise agility level. The purpose of the research is to explore the theory of improving a R&D organizational structure.This research makes an in-depth research into the factors that influence the R&D organizational structure, showing environment, the application of IT, strategy, scale of the company and personnel are the key factors. One the base of analyzing environment and R&D organization, the research comes up with a theoretical model of a R&D organizational structure.Based on the above analysis, an empirical research is conducted with International Manufacturing Strategy Survey (IMSS) database by means of factor analysis, ANOVA and canonical correlation analysis to test the relations between R&D organizational structure and agility level, competitive strategy and IT. The findings of the empirical study show:①the environment put a significant influence one the R&D organizational structure.②The use of IT is another factor have a significant influence on the R&D organizational structure;③the R&D organizational structure has a high correlation with the agility level of an enterprises.④the enterprise's competitive strategies influence the R&D organizational structure.In the end, according to the model of R&D organizational structure, the research indicates the principal of improving a R&D organizational structure and the way to do it.
