| The Expo (short for "exposition", and also known as World's Fair) is the collection of the world's most advanced civilization achievements, as well as the most vigorous innovative products and ideas. The specific theme is the most distinguish character that made it differ from other exhibitions. It is also the soul of all the Expo planning and design, including landscape design. Contemporary Expo Landscape has many social characters, such as diversity and complexity; combining with image expression of culture, art, and technology; emphasizing on humanized design for the communication atmosphere and information transfer. And it also benefit in many aspects, including rising the environment quality, recovering the destroyed eco-system, extending the context. Therefore, Landscape architecture plays an important role in the Expo Theme development system.To begin with the paper will give a brief introduction on the formation process of Expo theme system. This will be followed by a deep analysis on the profound influence of the theme in landscape design, and discussing the changing relationship between the theme and landscape design, which is a process from dissevered to integrate. A fine description is made on the respective examples of the Expo landscape designs in each era, and be well analyzed by comparison. The paper tries to explain how the invisible factors such as social transformation, economic development, and cultural evolution, which directing the visible landscape design. It also summarized the practicable and prospective methods and approaches of Expo landscape design. These include appropriately sites selecting, theme introduction, theme feeling, organic combination, integrated innovation, theme continuation, ect. The landscape design of Shanghai 2010 Expo is used to verify the ways this paper found. The paper concludes with a discussion of future research consideration and made a prospection of the future Expo landscape. |
