As the hub of transportation, modern port becomes more and more important to the development of national and regional economy. However, the port on the host city makes great contributions to the economy, but also inevitably uses up a lot of the shoreline resources, brings various pollutants, and has a negative impact on the ecological environment on the periphery. Therefore, it is necessary to put up in-depth, systematic and comprehensive study of the economic role of the port in light of green concept, to reach the overall balance of ports and urban development, thus realizing the sustainable development of ports and cities.The so-called green contribution refers to taking the consumption of natural resources and environmental quality degradation into the accounting under the guidance of green concept, is to quantify and minus the consumption of natural resources and environmental quality deductions from the economic contribution of port to city. Accounting of green contribution of port to city can reveal the internal relations of port, city, resources and environmental impact. It can provide port operators and managers with an effective basis in operation and planning of port, and can also provide government departments and port managers with basis of strategic decision making and analytical tools to implement a sustainable development.Based on domestic and international research on port city on the positive and negative impacts and shortcomings of present research of economic contribution of port to city, the paper proposes innovations on the green contribution model of port based on system dynamics; In the model, the paper applies input-output, the multiplier law, econometrics and other methods to estimate parameters. The combination of these methods makes the model closer to the actual system. As an application, the paper applies the model to the Dalian port to analysis the economic contribution of the Dalian port to city, uses of system dynamics simulation tool to analysis the dynamic change of economic impact of port to city under the policies of the energy reduction, equipment updated and environmental pressure. The paper combines the green concept and system dynamics tools to forecast and analysis the development of the Dalian Port to 2020. The results indicate that the methods proposed in this paper can be more comprehensive assessment of the impact of port to city and provides an effective means to formulation of the strategy of sustainable development of port and has a certain theoretical and practical value.
