| Commercial bank is an industry which has a very close relationship with people's life and the economy of the country and society. As one of the state-owned commercial banks in China, ICBC is the bank which owns the biggest scale, and is at the leader role in the industry. Since the foundation of ICBC, ICBC has made an outstanding contribution to the country's economy development, and taken a very important role. However, since the mechanism fell behind and the operation is inefficient, there are many problems existing in ICBC. Accompanying with the growth and development of the joint-stock commercial banks and the opening up of China's financial market after joining the WTO, ICBC is now facing very rigorous risks and challenges. In order to deal with these challenges, a reform is needed seriously.In Chapter one, on the base of analysis of the commercial bank industry, this thesis introduces the basic situation of the industry and the risks and challenges faced by the industry. In this chapter, this thesis also analyses the strategy of the state-owned commercial banks, and introduces the operation situation of ICBC. And then, in Chapter two, this thesis analyses the financial ratios of ICBC from horizontal and vertical trend using CAMEL model, in terms of capital adequacy, asset quality, earnings, liquidity and cash flow respectively. From the financial analysis, the main problems of ICBC are concluded. After that, in Chapter three, this thesis evaluates the value of ICBC using the results of the financial analysis, and compares the value of ICBC with that of Standard Chartered Bank. From the comparison, this thesis gets the conclusion that the value per net asset of ICBC is lower than that of Standard Chartered Bank, which also proves the result of Chapter two. Finally, according to the current problems of ICBC, this thesis brings forward advices of reform to ICBC: 1) adjust structure of income and develop intermediary business; 2) adjust structure of business and develop retail business; 3) adjust structure of consumers and develop the market of small and medium enterprises; 4) adjust structure of liability and develop initiative liabilities; 5) improve risk management; 6) reform human resource system; 7) enhance quality of service; 8) boost creativity. |
