The Research On The Determinants And Relevant Policy Suggestions Of The Intra-Industry Trade Of Automobile Parts Between China And U.S.A.

After WWⅡ,this new form of intra-industry trade(ⅡT) is gradually occupying a significant position in international trade.Most empirical and theoretical researches on intra-industry trade have focused on developed countries instead of developing countries, and there are few studies with respect to China until now.The present paper is devoted to analyzing intra-industry trade between China and U.S.A.,and the research target is the detailed developments in intra-industry trade of automobile parts between China and U.S.A..Firstly,research effort was devoted to analyzing general development of bilateral intra-industry trade between China and U.S.A..The result of general research showed that the level of intra-industry trade between China and the United States had been increasing on the whole recently years.From 2003 to 2005,the G-L index between China and the United States had reached 0.417,0.563 and 0.523 separately.These figures indicated the trait of the bilateral trade mode,namely,the share of intra-industry trade had increased to nearly approach that of inter-industry trade,but the latter was still playing the leading role. From the result of classified analysis of import and export of auto parts in bilateral trade between China and U.S.A.,we could not only obtain the detailed development of intra-industry trade in automobile parts,but also draw a conclusion that bilateral intra-industry trade type of automobile parts between China and the United States was still of vertical nature instead of horizontal.Enlightened by several western researchers' methods,this paper set up an estimated equation choosing three independent variables in the positive analysis of identifying determinants of intra-industry trade of automobile parts between China and the United States.The regression results based on data from 1998 to 2006 indicated that intra-industry trade markedly increased with gap of per capita income reducing,average market size enlarging and the level of economic development raising.And then the paper analyzed a background of foregoing research achievements,and the trend of bilateral intra-industry trade development based upon the future changes of country-and industry-specific determinants.In the empirical analysis part,for developing the intra-industry trade with U.S.A.,we should take these meatures as follow:speeding up developing differentiated products, encouraging development of economics of scale,improving quality and competitive strength of our export products.Drawing lessons from international corporation in the United States,improving the foreign direct investment from the United States.
