The Empirical Research On The Efficiency Of China Commercial Banks Based On The DEA Approach

With the financial market is becoming opening up, and the revolution of financial system is becomeing deepening, the commercial bank system of China has beening changed a lot. As the main body of the financial system, commercial banks'efficiency influences and decides the development of the economy directly. The banks'efficiency determines the competitive power of Chinese commercial banks in the international market, especially after China had enterecd into WTO.Because of the realistic significance, this thesis focuses on the banks'efficiency. At first, I introduce the domestic and foreign research result on this topic, then I select 11 representative public listed commercial banks in China as the research sample, collect the data in five years, from 2003 to 2007, and make use of the latest non-parameter performance evaluation method in the world, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) Method. By conducting deep analysis and research on three aspects: enterprise operating capacity, Profitability and growth ability, I construct an indicator system to evaluate the commercial banks'performance. Based on the data get from the DEA analysis, I make the horizontal and vertical comparison to find out the reason why the performance differential in different banks and different years, and put forward some improvement strategyies. Finally, by computing we gain a standard, and the administrators of the commercial banks can adjust the cost based on the standard. Consequently, the commercial banks can reduce cost and achieve more value.
