IBM, Cisco Systems, Dell and Toyota - besides being world famous companies, these firms have something else in common. They all have significantly improved the integration of their manufacturing supply chains in order to meet set market goals and improve their competitiveness in their respective industries. They have succeeded in the formulation of an extended enterprise, which is an integrated system, formed by closer collaboration with the partners in the supply chain. The Chinese motorcycle industry has developed enormously during the last thirty years. In this thesis, we identify the drivers of the Chinese motorcycle industry and its responses to those. Luoyang Northern Ek Chor Motorcycle Co., Ltd. (Dayang) is one of the top Chinese motorcycle manufacturers. In our thesis, we present how Dayang manages its supply chain according to the changing business environment. We examine in particular whether its supply chain is oriented towards the extended enterprise model. |
