This thesis mainly explored and studied the intercultural management issues within Sino-American Joint Ventures in the globalization context. The main theoretical systems used to support this thesis are the Protestant Ethics and Confucian ethics. This thesis comprehensively studied the issues of American and Chinese management cultures, such as cultural origins, core values and cultural characteristics, as well as operation and development strategies. It discussed the intercultural management of Sino-American Joint Ventures from the angle of relationship between the cultural values and modernization models. The theoretical framework basis is constructed on Weberian proposition, which fully explains the relationship between protestant ethic and Spirit of Capitalism, as well as issue of Confucian ethics'modern values raised by the third generation of New Confucianism triggered by industrial East Asia. Meanwhile, the two parties within joint ventures have double benefit games of industrial resources and shareholding interests on the two choice model of operation and development strategies, namely, Western multinational companies'standardization strategy and Chinese state-owned companies'localization strategy. Hence this thesis proposed interactive development model of flexible dynamic adjustment as well as undertaking the standardization strategy by localization strategy; and to seek the jointing point between the Confucian traditions and Western management thought in order to build integration strategies of intercultural management. In the above framework of this study, this thesis adopted literature review, in-depth interview, case studies, comparative study and other qualitative research methods to deeply explore and study the deep-seated questions related to Sino-American Joint Ventures'intercultural management. The theoretical framework, which involves culturology, management, sociology, psychology, etc., is built. Through summarization and conclusion of the cultural characteristics in Chinese and American management practices that are reflected from the Protestant Ethic and Confucian ethics, this thesis conducted a detailed analysis of the management practices and measures in Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd. This research led the management culture study from an implements aspect to a deeper cultural psychology level. In addition, it also proposed a series of pertinent measures and strategies. As for research method, this thesis chose a qualitative approach, which is suitable to clarify the complex problems in this research and to learn its phenomena and nature from the research subjects itself. Therefore, it thoroughly studied the cultural and ethical factors in Chinese and American management thoughts, clarified the inherent relationships between these two cultural values systems, and built a solid theoretical basis for the proposed idea of merging heterogeneous cultures in the thesis. As for research thought, this thesis grasped research object's quality, internal relation and development law with a view to the whole on macro-layout of the theoretical framework system. It adopted dialectical thinking to make the external divergence of the standardization and localization into dialectical organic unity in deeper level. This dialectical unity realized similarities (standardization) with differences (localization) as well as differences with similarities on organic accommodation level. It shown identity (standardization) within divergence and it was compatible with divergence (localization) within identity. The research finding is that the core problem of Sino-American Joint Ventures is the choice of standardization and localization. The controlling percentage of the stock usually means the adoption of dominating operation and management strategies. But tracing its origin, double benefit games of industrial resources and shareholding interests of the two parties within joint ventures are basic motivations. Thus, the only method for Chinese enterprise to solve the external contradiction between the standardization and localization and to achieve the success of intercultural management is the flexible and dynamic adjustment in the business development strategies according to different phases.
