Research On The Symbiotic Organizational Forms And Population Behavior Of Technological Innovation In The Construction Industry

The domestic research of technological innovation in construction industry mainly is focused on obstacles,mechanism and innovation System,rarely on the organizational form and population behavior of technological innovation in construction industry.By use of the theory of symbiotic organizations of technological innovation and organizational population ecology,the paper researches the symbiotic organizational forms and population behavior of technological innovation in the construction industry. There are four organizational forms of technological innovation in the construction industry identified as follows:①intermittent symbiotic organizational form of technological innovation based on construction projects in the construction industry;②successional symbiotic organizational form of technological innovation based on supply chain in the construction industry;③integration symbiotic organizational form of technological innovation in the construction industry;④symbiotic organizational form of technological innovation in the construction industry useing research institutes or universities as matrix.The characteristics,applying conditions and selective mechanism of four symbiotic organizational forms are discussed.It is clarified that the behavior process of the organizational populations of technological innovation in the construction industry comprises the four stages,namely the coordination stage,the more coordination and a little competition stage,the more competition and a little coordination stage,and the competition stage.The paper takes the technological innovation population of concrete enterprises for example,and researches the population behavior of the technological innovation by empirical research.The results show that the technological innovation population of concrete enterprises is being the more coordinated and a little competition stage.The factors affecting on technological innovation populations of the construction industry are analyzed.They comprise markets,industrial characteristics,industrial policies,organizational forms,capital factors,human resources and technical factors etc.The problems existing in the process of forming and development of the technological innovation organizations in China's construction industry are indicated,and the corresponding countermeasures are put forward.It is pointed out that eliminating institutional barriers existing in the process of forming and development of technological innovation organizations in the construction industry is the key to make technological innovation activities of organizations in the construction industry success.The study results are helpful for enterprises to select symbiotic organizational forms and effectively carry out innovation activities,and give the governmental departments the direction of instituting policies of promoting technological innovation in the construction industry as well.
