The sustainable development between industrialization, economic growth and ecological environment has always attracted a great deal of attention. The sustainable development means we should pursue economic and social development under the premise of environmental protection and sustainable utilization of resources. Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis describes the evolving relation between economy and environment. Therefore, under EKC hypothesis, sustainable development between industrialization and nature ecological environment in Huaihe River Basin is investigated.First, based on five indexes, viz. economic growth, industrial structure, inner structure of industry, employment structure and urbanization level, the synthetic industrialization index (SII) is built. The SII will give a comprehensive evaluation on the industrialization level of ten major cities settled in Huaihe River Basin near Anhui, Henan, Jiangsu and Shandong Provinces from 1998 to 2007. Next, the synthetic environmental index (SEI) is built on the basis of the environmental statistic data of the above cities. Using the SEI, the author gives some analysis about the ecological environmental quality of Huaihe River Basin. Finally, with the help of the above results and according to the EKC hypothesis, the author quantitatively establishes relations between industrialization and nature ecological environment in Huaihe River Basin and systemically explores the sustainable development between industrialization and ecological environment in Huaihe River Basin.Our results show: the industrialization level of the whole Huaihe River Basin is still low and has a big gap to the post-industrialization level; the local and global environmental quality is not optimistic and may go deteriorating in the future; among the relationship between industrialization and nature ecological environment in Huaihe River Basin, except that the curve described by industrial water shows typical EKC characters, on the stage from the upward to the downward, the others are basically on the upward stage, or on the stage from the downward to the upward, not entirely in accord with typical EKC hypothesis. The quality of ecological environment will be worse and the sustainable development is hard to achieve while the level of industrialization is being enhanced. Therefore, to realize the sustainable development between industrialization and ecological environment in Huaihe River Basin, we must increase the investment for environment protecting, strengthen the enforcement of law about environment protecting, vigorously develop circular economy, positively develop the technology of clean coal and finally, fully excavate potentialities of tourism resources.
