It is the era of ocean in the 21st century. Coastal aquaculture is a significant part of China's ocean industry. However, some problems occur in its modernization, industrialization and internatrilization processes the inferior state of technology restricts the whole industry's further development. Therefore, it is a must to improve the state and advancement of technology in coastal aquaculture industry.Meanwhile, foreign direct investment (FDI) is a hot topic in the academic circles. Its promoter action on the growth and technical progress in China's related industries has been proved by a bunch of theoretical and empirical research. However, whether FDI promotes the technical progress in coastal aquaculture is still unknown. This thesis focuses the coastal aquaculture and analyzes FDI's promoter action on the technical progress of coastal aquaculture industry. This thesis firstly describes FDI's mechanism on coastal aquaculture and analyzes current state of FDI on base of redefinition of coastal aquaculture, which redefines coastal aquaculture as a whole system, which is constituted by three core industries (capture fisheries, fish breeding and aquatic product processing )and subsidiary departments such as fishery, machinery, engineering ,fishery research, education, management and service, etc. On base of the above analysis, this thesis analyzes the current state of FDI in coastal aquaculture and illustrates the effect of integration of ocean and land on it.Based on the previous theoretical and empirical research, this paper introduces an econometric model to evaluate the of FDI and technical progress of coastal aquaculture industry. Owing to the lack of data, this paper analyzes the correlation of FDI in fishery and technical progress of fishery and correlation of FDI in coastal areas and technical progress in coastal aquaculture industry. According to the result, each one percent of growth in the FDI of fishery reduces 0.47 percent of technical progress of fishery; each one percent of growth in the FDI of aquaculture industry pushes technical progress of coastal aquaculture for 0.96 percent.According to the empirical result above, this thesis analyzes factors that restrict FDI promoter action in technical progress of fishery and analyzes the mechanism of FDI in coastal aquaculture. In the end of the thesis, several policy proposals based on the analysis above.
