A Study On "Green Hotel's Building" Of High Star-rated Hotels In Chengdu

With the emergence of global environmental issues, human beings gradually have a strong awareness of sustainable development. Hotel industry, as one of the three pillars of tourism industry, whether capable of achieving its sustainable development, is directly related to long-term development of the industry as a whole. In particular, the high star-rated hotels for its customers'high-consumption and the hotels'high energy requiring, will see their impacts on the environment become increasingly evident. Therefore, the way for hotels to achieve sustainable development is to build"green hotels"and take a harmonious environmental management, in order to achieve hotels'economic, social and environmental benefits.This paper is based on the theory of sustainable development, and also makes use of theories on environmental management, environmental ethics and environmental economics. In order to find out the green situation of high star-rated hotels in Chengdu, 28 high star-rated hotels were visited. Through interviews and comparisons among the 28 hotels, this paper analyzes the status quo and existing problems of the industry, and proposes the internal and external support systems to build the green hotels for the high star-rated hotels in Chengdu.This paper is composed of the preface, four chapters and conclusion, as follows:Preface: This part sets out the background to the subject topics, reviews the domestic and international research on the status of green hotels, and introduces the theme of this article, the main content, the research methodology and the innovation parts.Chapter 1: The development of green hotels and the analysis based on related theories: this part is an overview of the emergence and development of green hotels at home and abroad. It defines the meaning of the green hotel, compares the assessment of domestic and international green hotels'standards, and also sets out the major theories that would be used to study the process of green hotel later.Chapter 2: The analysis on the green status quo of high star-rated hotels in Chengdu: this chapter tackles the historical development of high star-rated hotels in Chengdu, analyzes the green hotels'status quo by the observation on high-star hotels in Chengdu. At the same time, a comparative study of the high star-rated hotels in Chengdu is made.Chapter 3: The internal countermeasures to build green hotel for high-stars hotels in Chengdu: considering the characteristics of high star-rated hotels in Chengdu, the paper proposes the internal countermeasures for them to promote the construction of green hotels, such as green management, green re-engineering, green product exploring and green consumption.Chapter 4: The external support system about green hotel's construction for high star-rated hotels in Chengdu: this chapter analyzes how to build the external support system for Chengdu's hotel industry from three aspects, such as the cultivation of an awareness of green consumers, the leading role that government departments should play, and the coordination activities that related associations should participate actively in.Conclusion: This part summarizes and gives a suggestion for the full text, and raises the problems that should get further study.
