Folk Temple Fair And Village Life In The Sonth Of The Yangtze River

The thesis is a case study about the Kwan-yin(Avalokiteshvara) Temple Fair in Lingxiazhu Town of Jinhua City of Zhejiang Province. Temple Fair is traditional folk activity existed extensively in China and important object of folklore research. Currently most of researches focus on historical changes and restoration of adjusting to the current of time of large-sized temple fair, but less small-sized temple fairs held by village as a unit was concerned. The thesis studies village temple fair, takes apart significance of local Kwan-yin (Avalokiteshvara) belief and its derivative temple fair in village people's life and relationship of them; displays folk culture's characteristic, investigates temple fair's influence on local people's production and life, expounds temple fair's function and special meaning of close relation between it and people. And the thesis discuss about interactive relation between village community and people's production and life, analyze mutual influence and effect of belief,entertainment,economy and culture in village life.The thesis includes five parts:Part 1 Introduction. It introduces the significance of the topic selected and its research's history and current situation, method and range of this research. It combs concept and classification of temple fair, introduces the current research situation of temple fair and Kwan-yin (Avalokiteshvara) belief in Zhejiang Province concisely.Part 2 It explains the village where the Kwan-yin(Avalokiteshvara) Temple Fair was held——the sociocultural summary of Lingxiazhu town, including local history and geography,social economy,cultural life and so on. It come out existing circumstance of the Kwan-yin(Avalokiteshvara) Temple Fair.Part3 It uses fieldwork procedure and the integrated method of history and document, introduces concretely Kwan-yin (Avalokiteshvara) belief in Lingxiazhu town, narrates the historical changes of Kwan-yin (Avalokiteshvara) belief and temple fair, and unscrambles the local Kwan-yin (Avalokiteshvara) story's culture. Part 4 Based on the first-hand data from the fieldwork, it introduces the Kwan-yin(Avalokiteshvara) Temple Fair completely: worship Kwan-yin (Avalokiteshvara) and recreational temple drama, trade and business of local people ,and invitation custom. It discusses the close interrelationship between these activities and local life; and analyzes the close relationship among the psychology of people's participation, temple fair and village life.Part5 Conclusion. It analyzes local polytheism belief ,and probes the folk belief and folk culture linking present situation.Appendix :Those pictures display relevant context of the paper's some parts as supplement.
