In recent times, due to a variety of reasons such as economic globalization, organization cooperation, and allocation of resources, virtual teams are a kind of new virtual cooperation organized form. In the meantime, the advanced information and communications technologies are technological foundation for rise and development of virtual teams. Virtual software teams are virtual team theories' application in software profession, they not only can help software business enterprises to satisfy consumers to demanding of rapid requests, make use of the forerunner's management principle and telecommunication technique to cross over human resource stipulation of traditional meaning from the dimensions, such as time, region and organization etc, to more efficient allocation of resources in the global range.The main purpose of study is to improve virtual software teams for effective management. Therefore, the thesis analyzes the background and meaning of study first, and puts forward a problem in "how to effectively manage a virtual software team". At the basis of analysis of the defination and types of virtual teams, adopting more analytical methods, the thesis points out the advantages and disadvantages of virtual teams opposite traditional teams, immediately studies composition factors of virtual teams and study of virtual teams at home and abroad to make further research again.The thesis draws on and extends the related theories of virtual teams, and carries on a definition of virtual software teams. On the foundation of analyzing the characteristics of virtual software teams, the thesis elaborates in detail the developing status of virtual software teams and currently facing a series of questions. For working out these problems, carries on the effective management in virtual software teams, the thesis sets out from three main factors (member, object and contact) of virtual teams, and induces effective management factors of virtual software teams: member's quality, management of objectives, effective communication. The thesis analyzes the effective management factors of virtual software teams. First of all, analyzes member's quality, summarises that the members must pay attention to the six ability to cultivate in a successful virtual software team, analyzes qualities of team leaders. Secondly, describes the steps to implement management by objectives in virtual software teams as well as the problems encountered in the implementation process, and does an in-depth systematic study on all aspects of management by objectives in connection with the characteristics of virtual software teams. Finally, analyzes the characteristics of communication and the effectiveness of communication channels in virtual software teams. The thesis takes the CMMB virtual software team as a case, focusing on three aspects that have the selection of qualified team members, implementation of management by objectives, and the establishment of communication mechanism, to manage in virtual software teams effectively.The significance of this thesis: through study of effective management in virtual software teams, gives the software enterprises management to provide reference in virtual teams.
