A Research Of Effectiveness Of Commercial Banks Based On Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate social responsibility refers to the obligation that maintains and promotes the social interests taken by companies in their seeking to maximize profits, which is a basic idea to build a harmonious relationship between enterprises and society. Commercial banks, as the main institution of fund allocation in the economic activities, have connections with almost all the enterprises. Banks guide funds and loans to flow into enterprises and institutions that are supported to develop by our country through the measures of lending rates and limit on the amount of loan funds.Banks have an indirect social responsibility on the environment and resources. Therefore, this paper aims to build the evaluation model of effectiveness of operations of commercial banks which take social performance as part of business performance, and accordingly makes an evaluation of effectiveness of operations of commercial banks in our country.Firstly, this paper studies social responsibility taken by the Chinese commercial banks based on different stakeholders. Secondly, based on the stakeholder theory, the index system of social responsibility is built and through analysis, the paper gets the result that the social responsibility consists the economic performance and social performance. Thirdly, using data envelopment analysis, this paper will select 22 domestic commercial banks and makes evaluation studies of the effectiveness of operations in 2007 and 2008 of these banks based on corporate social responsibility. Through the evaluation, the paper obtains the results that there is room for improvement of social performance of national joint-stock commercial banks, and gives corresponding suggestions for improvement. Finally, the paper gives some suggestions on how to realize social responsibilities better from the macro and micro aspects.Using the knowledge combined with finance, sociology and management, this study analyses and evaluate the raw data collected in the methods of cluster analysis and data envelopment analysis that belong to the method for comprehensive evaluation of the management. Basically the paper achieved the study purpose, and it has a certain meaning for the commercial banks to realize social responsibility more effectively.
