As an integral part of China's reform and opening policies, the use of foreign capital is an important aspect in increasingly linking China's economic to the world economy and is an important means in promoting economic growth. After the end of the Cold War, the new world order was formed. Regional economic integration and economic globalization become the world's two major trends in economic development while a new situation of China's opening up emerged. After 90's, Japanese companies gradually regarded China as complementary and mutually beneficial partnership and there have been some new features in Japan's direct investment in China. Since the start of the 21st century, with China's WTO accession and the upgrading of economic strength, Japan's direct investment in China continue to develop.In this paper, the author uses the cross-border direct investment theories and industrial competitiveness views, uses Japan and China-related institutions'data, by analyzing Japan's direct investment and Characteristics of industrial transfer, the author carries out the study of the situation about Japanese investment in China after the Cold War. The first chapter is the premise of the study. According to the introduction of China's foreign policy changes, China's foreign policy is divided into several different stages. That is, the trial and development stage, the promotion and adjustment phase, as well as the post-WTO foreign policy. Therefore we can clearly grasp the associations between the sharp transfer of industry from Japan to China and Chinese foreign policies. The second Chapter sums up the characteristics of Japanese investments in China after the post-Cold War, which includes the aspects of China's position in Japanese FDI and different regions Japanese enterprises aim to, it also analyzes the strategic changes of Japanese investments in China after the Cold War and the reasons for the further development. The third Chapter mainly analyzes the operating conditions of the Japanese-invested enterprises in China, as well as the reasons for the withdrawal of some enterprises. The fourth Chapter makes a summary for the influences and the effects of Japan's direct investment in China. Last, as to how to absorb Japanese investment effectively, as well as some problems we should pay attention to when Chinese enterprises go abroad doing overseas investments, the author puts forward his ideas and specific recommendations.
