On The Evolution Of Strategic Management

The theoretical research of strategic management is an important branch in Management studies, which represents an important research direction of management studies, and which occupies a central position. The competitive strategy theory proposed by Michael Porter and Kernel Competing Force Theory proposed by Prahalad and Hamel, which led to profound changes in all areas of society, has become classic theories in the strategic management theories. Through theoretical research and business practices, strategic management theory has formed a complete theoretical framework, system methods and perfect assessment feedback tools.In the current era of new economy and in the rapidly changing economic environment, not only corporate, but government is also facing the pressure from economic globalization, information technology and knowledge innovation. Strategic management theory introduced to government departments, can provide a powerful innovative tool for government, help the government to set lofty strategic vision and help the government to improve public services. Essentially, there are no essential differences between the applications of strategic management theories in the area of business and that of government departments. Strategic theory has a wide range of adaptability. Considering the characteristics and internal inefficiencies of government departments, it can be proved that public sectors should stand on a strategic height, and gradually change the traditional mode of operation in order to achieve the goals, responsibilities and mission.Strategic management theories play an important role in the management of companies, cities and countries. There is a close relation between the extensive application of theories and the strategic status of cities in a country and countries in the world. On such a basis, a study of the evolution and application of strategic theories is necessary, and this study should be based on concrete situations of a country in order to exert the guiding role of theory and achieve twice the result with half effort.This thesis contains a literature review of classic strategic management theories in different periods and background information that leads to the evolution of theories. After the literature review, there is an account of the introduction of strategic management theories into government public sectors, including problems still occurring in the application of the strategic theories, insights coming from the application, propositions of how to apply strategic management theories more effectively on the basis of specific situations of resources. At the end of the thesis, there is a forecast of the development tendency of strategic management theories. A conclusion is drawn and a new development direction is proposed through the analysis of strategic theories and practices.
