Study On Individual Forest Owners' Information Needs

In July 2008, "CPC Central Committee and State Council on promoting the reform of collective forest rights view" was promulgated. After the reform of collective forest rights, individual forest owner is the group which needs to be concerned and concentrated. During the management of forest, they require a variety of information and services. Individual forest owners need information and services to help them know the market, get technology and resist risks. The information demand is the foundation of the effective supply of information services, and is also the basis of decision-making. Only to know the condition of information needs of individual forest owners, the relevant departments can control the development of forestry accurately, implement scientific administration and decision-making, and provide information services for the individual forest owners pertinently.This paper divided individual forest owners into three groups. With the method of questionnaire and model, this paper have studied individual forest owners from the below aspects:According to the statistical data of questionnaire, this study begins from the forest management goal of individual forest owners. Based on the study of related literature, this paper concluded 8 kinds of management objective. Then using the clustering method, this paper divided forest owners into 3 categories according to the different forest management objectives-the production individual forest owners, environmental individual forest owners and multiple goal individual forest owners. Then this paper compared the three kind of individual forest owners from the difference of the composition of gender, education background and income, and studied the difference of the kind of information needs, the choice of the gaining channel of information, satisfaction of the information obtained, the will to pay for the information and the difference between their risk awareness.As the information needs are not affected by a single factor, but by a number of factors. In order to analy (?) and study information needs of individual forest owners comprehensively, this paper sets up a model of individual forest owners'information needs and analy (?) how the feature of individual forest owners, the will of individual forest owners, technical factors, information channel, and the individual forest owners' impression of the information disseminator will effect the information needs of individual forest owners..At last, according to the research result, this paper puts forward three major ways to improve the information needs of forest owners-develop education, improve the cultural and scientific quality of forest owners; strengthen the construction of information sources; and strengthen rural information infrastructure.
