The Yangtze River Delta in China's economic development plays a decisive role, while the Yangtze River Delta region's development mainly relies on foreign trade. Since the early 90s of last century, with Shanghai as the leader of the Yangtze River Delta region (including Shanghai and 16 prefecture-level cities of Jiangsu, Zhejiang)and with a relatively well-developed market system, a strong manufacturing base, as well as high quality comparative advantage of labor resources to become the fastest pace of economic development of China's current economic aggregate, the largest and most potential for development of the economic section. The Yangtze River Delta region's development mainly relies on foreign trade promotion, in 2008 the region's external trade in goods imports and exports amounted to 925.578 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for the same period 36.13% of total national imports and exports, total exports was 530.6 billion U.S. dollars, up 17.7%, per square kilometer, the export total of 4.84 million U.S. dollars. But the Yangtze River Delta region's foreign trade is still in the extensive mode of development stage, mainly rely on a lot of resources invested.Behind the high input and high consumption, it is the low output accompanied by slow changes in export structure or low levels or unreasonable. Currently, Exports which are the external competitive and strong commodities in the Yangtze River Delta region are mainly labor-intensive and resource-intensive and other traditional exports, while exports with less competitive goods are mainly capital and technology-intensive goods.and the quality of lots of exports have less competitive, mainly relay on price competitiveness to win. Therefore, changing the growth mode of foreign trade is an important way to improve the quality of growth of foreign trade and to achieve sustained growth in foreign trade.This paper has briefly reviewed the relevant studies and pointed out that there are existing research shortcomings and put forward practical suggestions and research ideas for improvement. First, introduce the two types growth mode of foreign trade, which are extensive and intensive type of foreign trade growth mode, pointing out their meanings and characteristics and their respective applicability. Second, It is to statistical analysis with foreign trade indicators:after the definition for the Yangtze River Delta region and the basic situation of foreign trade, brief overview of the Yangtze River Delta region, indicating the status of their foreign trade development, become statistical analysis.The methods used include location entropy analysis within the Yangtze River Delta region mainly to Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Yangtze River Delta region and 16 cities,result in the overview of the Yangtze River Delta and their respective industries which have a competitive advantage. Then, through the two indicators of Dependence on foreign trade and international investment openness to analyze the Yangtze River Delta economic openness; analyze the international competitiveness of export trade of Yangtze River Delt,and reviewed the results of the analysis of the indicators. Third, It is the empirical analysis to the foreign trade of the Yangtze River Delta region through the model of Yangtze River Delta region's foreign trade growth. Capital and labor inputs to the Yangtze River Delta region impact foreign trade growth, come to the Yangtze River Delta region is still dominated by extensive. In The final, the paper according to the analysis this paper has made,some recommendations come out, including strengthening the capacity of independent innovation, optimizing industrial structure, improve the investment environment, accelerate economic growth, vigorously develop the service industry and systems integration, hopefully they could provide some ideas to promote foreign trade growth in the Yangtze River Delta.Transformation of the foreign trade growth pattern on Yangtze River Delta are essential for sustainable development of foreign trade and the change in the pattern of economic growth as well as to the good functioning of the entire economy. If the Yangtze River Delta region achieve to transformation of foreign trade growth mode, I believe it can play a good role in promoting foreign trade growth and economic development of other parts in China.
