Agriculture is the foundation of the national economy. It's a very difficult task to realize agricultural modernization in a country with backward economy and culture, a large population, and limited resources like China. After the founding of new China, Mao Zedong and Deng Zihui, the representatives of China's communists, had actively led peasants to launch a massive far-reaching agricultural cooperative movement, in light of the theory of Marxism-Leninism and the agricultural cooperation, combining with China's rural actual conditions, and borrowing lessons from the historical experience of Soviet Union's agricultural collectivization. As it's the first great attempt of China's communists to seek the development road of China's agricultural socialism, Mao Zedong and Deng Zihui both actively furthered the exploration of theory and practice about it, jointly or separately put forward some important ideas about agricultural collectivization, and gradually and respectively formed their original ideas. On the basis of previous studies and with the criterion of dialectical materialism, historical materialism and down-to-earth attitude as the yardstick, this paper tries to adopt the methods of comparative study, the combination of analysis and synthesis, and the unification of history and logic, to comprehensively, deeply and systematically study Mao Zedong and Deng Zihui's agricultural cooperation thoughts. It discusses the common grounds of their agricultural cooperation thoughts, analyzes main differences and reasons, and sums up experience and lessons from that, which offers a narrow view for solving agriculture issues and serving new rural construction of socialism. This paper consists of four parts: the first part makes commons about Mao Zedong and Deng Zihui's agricultural cooperation thoughts and the main ideas, and sums up their similarities; the second part discusses specific differences and arguments of Mao Zedong and Deng Zihui's agricultural cooperation thoughts; part three more comprehensively and systematically analyzes causes of differences between Mao Zedong and Deng Zihui's agricultural cooperation thoughts, including three aspects ,"root causes, realistic reasons, and theoretical bases"; part four from the perspective of historical enlightenment, emphatically investigates and rethinks to analyze their respective merits and demerits by relating the concrete practices of Mao Zedong and Deng Zihui's agricultural cooperation thoughts to the agricultural cooperation movement in the early period after the founding of PRC, hoping to provide references for exploring the development road of socialism agricultural modernization with Chinese characteristics.
