With the social and economic development of china, problems concerning land are becoming more and more serious. Among these problems are the shortage of land, the lack of arable land and the non-rational expansion of urban layout. With the land resources in short supply and the urban expansion challenged, the sound and sustainable development of regional industrialization and urbanization depends largely on the intensive and efficient use of existing urban land resources. The land already developed is the result of human labor and also an important vector of human development. Besides, the stock of land for construction is of much use and of great value. Taking full advantage of the stock is not only the effective use of pre-investment, but an important manifestation of the cost saving.Centered on the characteristics of land use in Jiayuguan City, this paper focuses on the intensive use of land in store. Land Use of Jiayuguan City is featured by "enough industrial land, scarce agricultural land, the high level of urbanization, eco-fragile". These four aspects are the key issues throughout the paper and will be paid attention to in different chapters. In the first place, the writer discusses the domestic and international research on the intensive use of land and the existing problems, explains how the intensive use of land should be evaluated, puts forward the principles of the evaluation and analyses the factors that may influence the intensive use of land. The balance between land supply and demand is what promotes the intensive use of land. Therefore, in the very beginning, the paper analyses the evaluation of land supply and demand of Jiayuguan city under the constraints of ecological security pattern land supply. The analysis shows that land supply can't meet the demand. It follows that the land in Jiayuguan City should be intensively used and the land in store should be taken full advantage of, with outward expansion serving as a supplement. In this paper, the evaluation of intensive use of land has two main areas. First, evaluation of intensive use of land in the city. The paper strives to gain the fundamentals of intensive use of land from the perspective of land use structure and its evaluation pattern. All this, in the meantime, can serve as a reference for the research on land function. The study shows that the intensive use of land in the city is on quite a low level and is changing, on the whole, from extensive to intensive use. Second, evaluation of intensive use of land in functional area. Because land use in Jiayuguan City has such characteristics, as" more industrial land, scarce agricultural land and the high level of urbanization", land in the city is divided into three functional areas. Measured on the three functional areas were degree of land use, and conduct intensive area, classified as low use, moderate use, intensive use and excessive use. Then, to measure the potential for land-use, and the potential partition into the negative potential area, zero potential area, a potential area, two potential areas and three potential areas. Finally, based on the practice of land intensive use, the paper reflects the policies around the intensive use of land and offers advice on how to guarantee the intensive use of land in store and new construction land.
