Northwestern area is the most vulnerable area of Chinese environment. In recent years, human activities intensified the negative impact on the environment, paticularly in the vast rural areas, rural ecological environment has been deteriorating due to farmers focusing on pursuing short-term economics interests. These negative alteration has serious impact on agriculture and farmer's normal life. Therefore, for the sake of designing a rational incentive mechanism and guiding farmer's behavior in the ecological way, we must analyze the manner of farmers'behavior on environment, it has great significance on protecting agricultural and rural environment in northwestern China.Under the guidance of farmer's behavioral theory and incentive theory, defining the connotation of farmer's ecological behavior. We analyze the characteristics of farmer's behavior and factors on the basis of spot check. Through logistic model, we assess the effectiveness by the degree of each factor which can be based on to design corresponding incentive mechanism. The paper consists of six chapters:Chapter 1 Introduction. We summarize the background, sinificance, research findings in domestic and abroad, train of thought , method and possible innovations.Chapter 2 Fundamental theory. On the basise of analyzing farmers and farmers'behavior, we define the meaning of farmer's ecological behavior. Meanwhile, generalizing farmer's behavior theory, sustainable development theory and the influence of farmers'behavior on environment.Chapter 3 Current situation of agri-ecological environment and characteristics of farmers'ecological behavior. On the basis of the survey data and analysis of northwestern environmental situation, we have summerized the characteristics of farmers'ecological behavior in three aspect of cognition, behavioral motivation and the utilization of agricultural resources.Chapter 4 The analysis of factors on farmers'ecological behavior in northwestern China. Discussing how farmers'characteristics(farmer's age, family size, year of education), natural resources endowment(asset status, number of labor, the extent to which farmers get involved in the off-farm work), instiutional arrangements (property right system, promotion of agricultural technology)and non-economic factors(the manner of farming, rural community culture) effect farmers'ecological behavior. Logistic model indicate that the majority of factors have positive effect on behavior, such as the age of farmer, family size, agricultural subsidy policy and rural community culture, etc.Chapter 5 Recation mechanism. In order to respond to agri-enviornmental policy, farmers have to facing information availability, costs and benefits, technical assistance and risk aversion. We evaluate the effect of return the grain plots to forestry case briefly for building incentives in six chapter.Chapter 6 The structure of incentive mechanism northerwestern farmers'ecological behavior. Based on the building principles, we establish the main contents of incentive mechanism from non-market mode and market mode. Simultaneously, we emphasize insitution and non insituation for guaranteing the implementation effect.
