In Handan County, Hebei Province, the worsening of situations in freshwater shortage, groundwater overexploitation and water pollution have become restrictive factors of economic development. Therefor, the local water conservancy department asks for evaluating and forecasting groundwater resources from quantitative point.The thesis takes shallow groundwater resources of Handan County as the research object. First, on the basis of hydrogeology condition, recharge, runoff and excretion conditions, dynamic features of groundwater and distribution status of groundwater mineralization are analysed. Second, hydrogeological parameters in study area are determined. Then, the balance between recharge and excretion of shallow groundwater quantity is analysed. Third, based on the discretization and hydrogeological condition generalization in study area, the hydrogeological conceptual model and groundwater mathematical model in Handan County are established, which is solved by Visual MODFLOW software. In the following, the established model is identified and validated by the water lever datum from Mar. 27, 2007 to Jun. 27, 2007 and Sep. 27, 2008 to Dec. 27, 2008. The results show that the model accords with precision requirements and better reflects actual hydrogeological conditions of the study area and dynamic change law of groundwater. Fourth, using the model, groundwater levels and responses of groundwater flow field in 2015 and 2020 are predicted under the limitation program. The results show that the groundwater level dropps by 3m from 2007 to 2015, the drop will reach the stable value around 3.5m and the flow fied will also be stable after 2015. Seeing from the change tendency of many years, the yield quantity is almost balanced between the quantity of replenishment and exploitation, which shows that exploiting groundwater with the designed program can guarantee the supply.With above work, water supply and demand at 2015 and 2020 are analyzed, as well as the main problems are found in exploitation and utilization of water resources. Then, corresponding protection measures are proposed. It provides a scientific basis for sustainable utilization of groundwater in Handan County.
