Through feeding on varieties of food, it was found that Paramecium sp. was one of the best feed for the initial feeding of Takifugu obscurus larvae, and Brachionus calyciflorus was fit for larvae stage, while the function of photosynthetic bacteria was to improve living environment.The karyotype of Takifugu obscurus was studied; the result indicated that the chromosomal number was 44, the karyotype formula was 2n=10m+6sm+8st+20t, NF=60. Compared with other species of Takifugu genus, all had same the chromosomal number, so it was easy to produce hybrid puffer, while the karyotype formula and NF varied from species to species.The anatomic data were got including digestive system, urogenital system, olfactory apparatus, heart, braia And their trait and function was analysised, it was found that the length of digestive tract impacted more mightily body weight than standard length.Data about the growth of captive Takifugu obscurus at four different ages were collected. We concluded the length-weight relationship equations and the growth equations of standard length and body weight In addition, the Fulton coefficients and characteristics of breast circumference, venter circumference. The results showed that length growth of female and male captive Takifugu obscurus had similar characteristic. When a captive Takifugu obscurus was less than 2.5 years, the weight of male increased more quickly than that of female, but after that period, it's the other way round. The captive one was fatter than the wild one; both its weight-to-length ratio and Fulton coefficients were higher than the latter's.The growth of gonad and liver were analyzed as well. The results revealed that bad development of the gonad and liver fatty degeneration often occurred to the captive one and there was a correlation between the two. All these often resulted in failure of artificial propagation.Based on the above results, The Jiangsu provincial local standard DB32/T 539-2002(Captive obscure puffer) was enactedThe above results will boost cultivation of Takifugu obscurus.
