In the current times of information and Digital Earth, the content of Geo-spatial data is complicated and its quantity is enormous. It is practical and feasible method to set up the Geo-spatial metadata for managing and sharing the data. Digital Geological Map is stored in the mode of map layer and file. The appearance of it makes geological work deepened continuously. The concerned data and information can be modified and supplied at any moment and new maps can be produced continuously. So dynamic management is implemented. It can meet data producer's demands and can make it possible for user to search what he wanted using metadata which can describe, search and manage data easily.Traditional metadata information system is limited in users' interface, system integrating,crossing-platform application and so on,but with the development of computer technology and GIS technology, there has been a new thought and a new method to resolve these problems. This paper outlines the concept, role and meaning, and standard of metadata firstly. On the basis of the Content Standard of Metadata for "NREDIS",combinated with the technology of ASP.NET,this paper designs a metadata information system for digital geological map based on the B/S mode. The system implements mainly four functions:the browse of metadata standard, the input of metadata, the query of metadata and the maintenance of metadata. This system provides the academic bases and technical prototype for constructing National Spatial Information Infrastructure(NSII) and Digital Earth,at the same time,it will promote the sharing of geo-spatial information and propel the progress of technology. At last, the result of the researching and studying is summarized and the future development tendency is expected in this paper.
