Virtual Instrument (VI) is a kind of new-styled instrument which formed in the computer application of instruments and appearances. It is the sound integration of computer hardware resource instrument measuring and controlling technology the software related data analyzing process communication and graphical user interface. Electrical Virtual Instrument (EVI) makes full use of the characters of VI, hanging together the powerful calculating graph processing capability of computer and the measuring and controlling ability of the hardware. With the EVI, a serial of electrical work can be finished conveniently and quickly. The primary research for the constitution of the EVI and it's application are dissertated in the paper. Firstly, the principle and method of constructing the hardware platform and software platform are discussed; Secondly, the simulated electrical observation systems of the VI are narrated; Last, the effect of EVI are testified from both the model experiments and field work. The hardware platform of the EVI includes lots of independent hardware units. According to the need of work, adding the units and soften these hardware units, the hardware environment of the EVI. is formed. The VI software platform is founded on The Programmer's Work Bench(PWB) of Microsoft C6.0. Under the control of the software platform, the data acquisition and processing of many application software can be accomplished., displaying the data and curve real time makes the field work more convenient.Transferring the different units of the hardware platform and corresponding sub-module of the software platform, many simulated geophysics observation systems are established.Model experiments and field works point out that the EVI has good result.
