Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a new geophysical technique which develop rapidly from the 1970s. In this paper, the author systematically analyses GPR technique including the history, theory basis, detecting principle, apparatus and work method. New technique and new method in GPR is introduced into coal mine to detecting the tectonic in coal seam.Firstly, the author study several different GPR equipments and integrate some techniques to a new Explosion-Proof GPR which is made for coal mine underground, and select the appropriate antenna for GPR work at coal mine underground. Secondly, the feasibility research of detecting the tectonic in coal seam by GPR technique is discussed through analyse about radar wave promulgate rule and electricity character of coal seam. On this basis, the author detailedly study the technique of detecting the tectonic in coal seam underground by GPR. At last, many detecting work in testing room and in coal drift underground have been finished. The conclusion is that the technique of detecting the tectonic in coal seam underground by GPR is a effective and good way.The research in this paper is very important to detecting the tectonic in coal seam, coal mine safty and GPR application in coal mine underground.
